Kenya to face Uganda in the Cecafa Challenge final

Kampala (Alshahid)-Uganda Cranes  will take on Kenya’s Harambee Stars in the final tie slated for Cecafa Challenge Cup on Saturday at Namboole  Stadium in Kampala.

Harambee Stars beat Zanzibar Heroes 4-2 on post penalties to make the final of this year’s Cecafa Tusker Cup at Namboole on Thursday.

Stars showed remarkable resilience twice coming from behind to take the game to extra time at 2-2 and they then held their nerve to convert all four spotkicks and qualify for their first final since 2008.

Khamis Mcha Khamis gave Zanzibar the match opener barely after 20 minutes after connecting home Amir Hamad Omar cross to beat Kenya custodian Duncan Ochieng.

Kenya however responded with a bang waging attack after another that resulted with Zanzibar captain Nadir ‘Canavaro”Haroub netting an own goal in a desperate bid to clear a danger on 30th minute.

Aggrey Morris netted Zanzibar second goal in the 75th minute from the spot after Kenya defender David Owino tripped Jaku Juma  Jaku in the danger zone for Burundi’s referee Thierry Nkurunzinza to point at the spot.

Nevertheless, Kenya’s “old horse” Mike Barasa headed home the equalizing goal  in the dying minutes from Abdalla Juma’s corner to give  his side a lifeline.

Abdalla Juma fired his shot in off the post to send Harambee Stars through, after two Zanzibar Heroes players had missed their penalties.

Uganda booked their place in the final by easing past Tanzania 3-0, thanks to two goals from Robert Ssentong and one from Emmanuel Okwi.
